Image Format Converter

Convert a batch of supported raster images into PNG, JPEG, or WebP. Choose a quality level for lossy exports and a background color when converting transparency to JPEG. Preview the actual format, dimensions, and size before downloading.

Source images

Up to 12 images, 20 MB per file, 24 megapixels per image; 60 MB and 48 megapixels per batch. SVG is not accepted. GIF and animated formats export as still images.

Choose a new format

PNG retains transparency and uses lossless encoding. JPEG works well for photographs and fills transparency with your chosen color. WebP supports transparency and a quality setting. Export support depends on your browser; the download extension always matches the actual file type.

Maximum output: 32 megapixels per image, 64 megapixels / 64 MB per batch. Newly encoded downloads may lose metadata and color profiles.

Selected files are processed in your browser. This tool does not upload image bytes or fetch remote image URLs. Clear the tool to release its local image previews.

How to use the Image Format Converter

  1. 01

Choose supported PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, or BMP images.

  2. 02

Choose PNG, JPEG, or WebP as the output format.

  3. 03

Set lossy quality or the JPEG background color where needed.

  4. 04

Convert the files and download each result using its actual format extension.

Examples

Transparent PNG to JPEG

Choose JPEG and a white background for a product photo destined for a system that only accepts JPG. Transparent pixels become white; they do not remain transparent.

BMP screenshot to PNG

Choose PNG for a lossless encoding of the rendered screenshot pixels. The output keeps the source dimensions and may be smaller than the original BMP.

Choose a format for the image

PNG is useful for screenshots, diagrams, and transparency. JPEG is commonly used for photographs where some detail loss is acceptable. WebP supports transparency and a quality setting. The best byte size depends on the image and the browser encoder.

The extension follows the encoder

Some browsers may fall back to PNG when an output encoder is unavailable. The tool checks the returned Blob type and names the download accordingly, avoiding a PNG file disguised with a WebP extension.

Conversion is not a byte-for-byte rewrite

The browser decodes the source into pixels and creates a new file. Embedded metadata, animation, color profiles, and original compression choices are not retained as an archive. Keep original source files for later editing.

What to know

  • Output formats are PNG, JPEG, and browser-supported WebP only.
  • No format conversion can recover image detail missing from the source.
  • Image editing accepts raster files up to 20 MB and 24 megapixels each, with 60 MB and 48 megapixels total source limits.
  • Canvas output is limited to 16,384 pixels per edge and 32 megapixels per image; browser memory limits can be lower.
  • Newly encoded exports are still images. Metadata and color-profile retention are not guaranteed.

Common questions

Can I convert HEIC or SVG?

No. This converter accepts the listed raster formats only. Use the separate SVG to PNG tool for vector input.

Can I convert an animated GIF to PNG?

A supported GIF can be decoded, but the export is a still frame, not an animation.

Will converting JPEG to PNG restore lost detail?

No. PNG can store the decoded pixels without another lossy encoding step, but it cannot recreate information already lost from JPEG compression.

Why is the converted file larger?

Different formats and quality settings store the same pixels differently. PNG exports of photographs can be much larger than JPEG originals.
