Calculators & Converters

Wallpaper Calculator

Estimate full rolls by counting vertical strips, rather than dividing wall area by roll area. Include cutting trim and, for straight-match designs, a conservative repeat allowance at each roll start.

Count full-height drops and account for trimming and straight pattern repeats.

Project measurements

Use one currency throughout; tax, labor and delivery excluded.

Prices use your chosen currency consistently. Blank price skips cost. Example coverage, density, yield and prices are editable scenarios, not current product offers.

Method: Drops per wall = ceiling(wall width ÷ roll width). Straight match rounds each drop to a whole repeat and reserves one repeat at each roll start. Whole rolls cover drops × allowance.

All walls use the entered width and height. Measure unequal walls separately. Doors/windows are retained as full drops; no offcut reuse. Half-drop, offset, mural and A/B patterns are excluded. Confirm the match and sold roll size on the label.

Quantity and material-only cost estimate. Verify field measurements, product instructions and your purchase units. Labor, delivery, taxes, equipment and structural adequacy are excluded.

Calculations run in your browser. This tool does not request a location, retrieve live prices or send your measurements to a material supplier.

How to use the Wallpaper Calculator

  1. 01

Choose free match or straight match. Enter one wall’s width and height and the number of identical walls.

  2. 02

Read the actual width and sold length on the roll label. Enter total top-and-bottom trim, and the vertical repeat for a straight match.

  3. 03

Review drops per roll and the resulting whole-roll order. For unequal wall heights or widths, run separate estimates and review the combined order with the supplier.

Examples

Free-match feature wall

A 12 ft wide, 8 ft high wall needs eight full-width strips from 20.5 in wide paper. With 4 in total trim, a 33 ft roll yields three full drops. A 10% allowance gives an order of three rolls.

A repeat reduces yield

With those same dimensions and a 21 in straight repeat, the cut length rounds to 105 in. One further repeat is reserved at each roll start. Three drops still fit; a shorter roll or taller wall can reduce that yield to two drops.

How the straight-match model works

Add height and total trim, divide by vertical repeat, round up, then multiply by the repeat. Subtract one repeat from each roll before counting those full cut lengths. This reserves starting alignment conservatively; it may order more than a professional optimized cut plan.

Wall-by-wall strip rounding

Each identical wall receives a whole number of full-width strips. Narrow strips are not reused on a neighboring wall and openings are not subtracted. Graham & Brown distinguishes free, straight and offset matches; the product label is the authority for your design. Half-drop, offset, alternating A/B rolls and murals need a different layout.

What to know

  • Material quantities and user-price scenarios only; no structural adequacy, code compliance or installation approval.
  • Example product values are illustrative. Verify your measurements and current product label before ordering.

Common questions

Should I enter a single roll or a double roll?

Enter the actual width and total length of the unit you will buy. Trade names such as single or double roll can be misleading; the dimensions determine yield.

Can I subtract window and door area?

This strip model retains full-height drops across openings. Short offcuts may be usable, but simple area deductions can understate the paper needed to keep the pattern aligned.

Does the extra percentage replace repeat matching?

No. Repeat matching is built into the cut length first. The extra percentage then adds spare strip capacity for errors, damage or future repairs.
